The Club

Grindavíkur Golf Club was founded on May 14, 1981

Jóhann Möller had a summer house in Staðarhverfi and he had prepared 4 fairways and holes on the banks. He strongly encouraged the locals to come and play and to start a golf club . In 2009, work began on expanding the course to 18 holes according to drawings by Hannes Þorsteinsson and under the supervision of course manager Bjarna Hannesson. The official opening of the 18-hole Húsatóftarvallar was held with an opening tournament on July 28, 2012. In January 2011, renovations were also undertaken on residential property owned by the golf club with the aim of housing the future GG clubhouse. The clubhouse was officially opened on July 1, 2012. The course is very diverse, you have mostly lava surroundings but also fields and beach.

The Golf Course

Húsatóftavöllur lies on the main road to Reykjanesvita, west of Grindavík, about 7 km from Bláa Lónið. The course has 18 holes, five of which are on the banks with the sea, thirteen are north of the highway and stretch pleasantly into the lava. First, the holes on the upper course are played into the lava in an easterly direction from the golf club. When the first 6 holes have been played, golfers turn west and finish the first part in the famous bowl on the 9th green opposite the golf bowl. Then the field is played back and forth on the next three holes and finally the banks are played. The 18th hole is adjacent to the old lodge and is a majestic par 3 hole that leads up to the current clubhouse.

A new clubhouse was opened in July 2012. It is 170 square meters in size and can seat up to 100 people. The clubhouse is suitable for all kinds of groups and companies . The course is full of contrasts and is divided into three parts with a typical beach course, grown farmland and fairways surrounded by lava. Húsatóftavöllur lies in a crevasse area and opens majestic chasms facing golfers on many fairways of the upper course. It’s save to say that it is a true natural pearl because it stands on the plate divide, where the European plate meet the American plate in all their glory. The course is considered quite easy on the feet.
