About The Golf Club

Grindavík Golf Club was founded on May 14, 1981

Jóhann Möller built a 4-hole course by his summer house in Staðarhverfi and encouraged locals to start a golf club. In 2009, expansion to 18 holes began, designed by Hannes Þorsteinsson and overseen by Bjarni Hannesson. The full course, Húsatóftarvöllur, officially opened with a tournament on July 28, 2012. Renovations on a residential property for the GG clubhouse began in 2011, with the clubhouse opening on July 1, 2012. The course features a mix of lava, fields, and beach landscapes.

The Golf Course

Húsatóftavöllur is located on the road to Reykjanesvita, west of Grindavík, about 7 km from the Blue Lagoon. The 18-hole course features five seaside holes and thirteen that wind through lava fields north of the highway. Play begins eastward into the lava, then turns west, finishing the front nine in the famous bowl at the 9th green. The back nine loops back and forth before finishing on the banks. The final hole, a striking par 3, ends by the old lodge and current clubhouse.

The 170 m² clubhouse opened in July 2012 and seats up to 100, making it ideal for groups and events. The course is uniquely divided into beach, farmland, and lava fairways. Set in a crevasse zone on the tectonic plate divide, it offers dramatic views and natural beauty. Despite the rugged setting, the course is easy on the feet.
